Diana Memorial Fountain wins Natural Stone Award
The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, by Gustafson Porter, has received recognition at the Stone Federation of Great Britain’s annual awards ceremony. The Diana Memorial won the top award in the specially created category for ‘Design and Technology innovation in Stone’. The Memorial’s design and construction team includes Gustafson Porter, McConnells, Barron Gould-Texxus and SDE.
Chief Judge John Barton said the award was to honour the “pioneering and brilliant use of computer technology, coupled with a knowledge of stone and water.”
The Natural Stone Awards are judged by a panel of the industry’s leading figures in conjunction with the Stone Federation of Great Britain, the trade association for the industry. For Gustafson Porter the award comes only a month after the practice was named ‘Landscape Architect of the Year’ at the 2006 Horticulture Week Awards.
Over the past year Gustafson Porter has seen to completion a number of high profile projects including; The Westergasfabriek Culture Park in Amsterdam, which transformed a large part of the city’s former gasworks into an exciting cultural public space, and Swiss Cottage Park in London, a open space designed to accommodate the recreational needs of the diverse community which surrounds it.
Gustafson Porter has jointly won a competition to design one of three garden areas on the waterfront in Singapore and is currently working on a master plan for a linear park in Jeddah, Saudi
